About the Artist

Joan Porter Jannaman is an artist who specializes in equine/equestrian portraits and wildlife themed oil paintings. Her Lakehill Studio is in Hendersonville, TN.

A childhood full of riding, showing and caring for horses has enhanced her ability to understand and capture the true form and spirit of her subjects. Joan’s father was also an accomplished artist and both parents encouraged her to see the world through artist’s eyes. Her background includes a degree in Art Education from the University of Delaware and studies continued at the Philadelphia College of Art in the field of illustration, The Scottsdale Artist School and workshops focusing on portraiture.

After working as an art educator, archaeological illustrator and a freelance advertising illustrator, Joan chose to concentrate her work in fine art oil painting and returned to her lifelong passion for horses. Her paintings have since been published in many equine themed magazines including multiple covers of The Chronicle of the Horse. One of Joan’s paintings was recently included into the International Museum of the Horse's permanent collection in Lexington, KY commemorating the story of Snowman and Harry de Leyer. Her paintings can be found in public and private collections throughout the US, Canada and the UK.

Commissions are welcomed and Joan’s goal is to translate the love of her subjects into an heirloom portrait that becomes a treasured addition to your art collection.
